She crossed an ocean to learn to dance flamenco. Today she dances it with an elegance that can't be taught.
Un océano de por medio no fue excusa. Carmen Young empezó a bailar en Aguascalientes, México, y un día hizo las maletas para aprender flamenco donde se aprende de verdad: en Sevilla. Allí se convirtió en una de las alumnas más destacadas de la Fundación Cristina Heeren.
Aprendió de maestros como Manolo Marín, Cristóbal Reyes, Isabel Bayón o Juana Amaya, y desde entonces ha ido dejando su nombre en concursos y escenarios: premio especial del Tablao Las Carboneras, primer premio del Tablao Los Amayas y tres galardones en el Certamen de Coreografía de Danza Española y Flamenco, entre ellos una actuación en el Festival de Jerez.
Lo que la distingue no es solo la técnica. Es la compostura: esa manera de estar sobre el escenario, sin prisa y sin ruido, que hace que no puedas mirar a otro sitio.
