Juan Carlos Avecilla: the force of Cádiz in the Cathedral of Flamenco
Only the greats set foot on the oldest stage in the world. The force of Cádiz in Juan Carlos Avecilla, just a couple of metres from you.
There are artists who come to dance and others who come home. Juan Carlos Avecilla already stepped onto these boards when this tablao was called Villa Rosa, and he took second prize in its dance competition. Now he returns as one of the most acclaimed bailaores of his generation.
He was born in Chiclana de la Frontera and carries Cádiz in his body: the grace and the weight, the salt and the depth. He trained with masters such as Rocío Molina, Israel Galván and Manuel Liñán, and his talent as a creator has earned him first prize at the Spanish Dance and Flamenco Choreography Competition, a Spanish National Ballet grant and several nominations for the Max Awards. Today he dances with the companies of María Pagés and Ángel Rojas, and directs his own.
He brings all of that with him when he steps on stage, just a couple of metres from you.
