Antonio Maya ‘Salvaje’
percusion
Percussionist from Granada with a long career accompanying dance.
Antonio Jiménez Maya ‘Salvaje’ is a percussionist from Granada. He was born in 1981 into a very flamenco family.
Son of Mayte Maya and grandson of María ‘la Coneja’ and Juan Cantero, he has a spectacular skill in accompanying the dance. From a very young age, he has lived flamenco through his large family of artists; guitarists, singers, dancers and palmeros.
At the age of 12 he began to develop in the world of percussion, working with Juanele Maya. Since then, he has performed in several tablaos in Madrid such as Casa Patas, Tablao Flamenco 1911, Café de Chinitas, Cardamomo… He has also performed in the most important theatres all over Spain and has toured countries such as the United States, Japan and other countries in Europe and Asia. He is also part of the percussion group Gipsy latin percussion created by him together with 4 percussionists, a dancer and a singer. Antonio is currently developing flamenco percussion in conjunction with other disciplines such as jazz and soul.
He has collaborated with great artists such as Antonio Canales, Joaquín Cortés, Juana Amaya, Manuela Carrasco, Rafael Amargo, Juan Andrés Maya, Cristóbal Reyes, María Juncal and many others. He currently lives in Madrid, combining his experience as a performer with his work as a teacher.
