Felipe Maya

percusion

Felipe Maya, a native of Madrid, comes from a family of guitarists with a strong artistic influence from an early age, thanks to his parents Jerónimo Maya and Felipe Maya. Since his childhood, he showed an affinity for the sounds generated by the blows, which led him to discover his vocation in percussion.

His innate talent for playing percussion was discovered by David Jiménez and Laura Abadía who saw in him something that Felipe was not yet aware he had. At the age of 15, Laura taught him how to carry the rhythm by whispering in his ear. Later, Felipe joined the company of dancer Curro de Candela and together they were part of “Afrogitano”, a work that explores universal human emotions and dialogues through dance, without losing the essence and elegance of flamenco.

Today, Felipe shines as a percussionist on the stage of Cardamomo and Tablao flamenco 1911, sharing his art with outstanding artists such as Farruquitoand “Joselillo Romero”. For him, sharing the stage with them is an impressive experience, difficult to express in words. As a percussionist, he considers it crucial to maintain a strong connection with himself and to make his music generate a deep union with the other artists and the audience present.
